What you will Learn
Increase your knowledge of what is possible with encaustic in this 3-day workshop exploring mixed media, relief and three-dimensional painterly approaches towards making art with encaustic.
The workshop is generously sponsored by R&F Handmade Paints and is taught in English.
Encaustic as an encapsulator
Students will master the ability to use encaustic as an encapsulator, both as a paint and binder, as more sculptural approaches towards painting are discovered. Learn how a mixed media approach can enhance encaustic painting, bringing a new energy and dimension to your work.
With a focus on repurposing, a selection of materials compatible with encaustic will be introduced towards expanding and extending form and meaning in the work.

Reframe natural elements
We will incorporate and reframe natural, handmade and industrial elements as an extension of our colour palettes, discovering texture as colour, shadow as line and form and the 3 dimensional as ‘painting in the round’. Direction will be given towards the pacing an artwork and development of compositional form towards constructing a uniquely visual architecture of space.
How to build a painting
The importance of sequence will be discussed as students learn structurally sound methods to ‘build’ a painting. The advantages and limitations of combined materials will be considered as archival and safe studio practices are addressed.
Be guided and inspired
A PowerPoint presentation will be included to guide and inspire. Experimentation will be encouraged, and a strong focus on individual support will be given. Students will return to their studios with new inspiration ready to be incorporated into their artistic practices.
